Governor Sindh Kamran Khan Tessori has said that corruption was responsible for weakening social fabric of our society and a collective approach should be adopted by all of us for eradicating this menae.
This he said while addressing a seminar in connection with International Anti-Corruption day titled “Corruption Free Society- A Progressive Society” at Governor House today. This seminar was organized by National Accountability Bureau Karachi.
Governor Sindh while lauding NAB’s role said that NAB has adopted stringent anti-corruption curbs that act as a major contribution in economic development which necessitates conducive and corruption free environment.
Highlighting the causes of corruption, he said that institutional weakness, vague policy-making and poor governance leads to reduced investments both domestic and foreign.Misuse of public power and moral decay are also major causes of corruption in society, he observed
Governor Sindh appreciated NAB’s efforts in recovery of looted money from the culprits and returning it back to Government and the public.
DG NAB Karachi, Mr. Javed Akbar Riaz highlighted the importance of awareness and said that NAB Karachi is investigating mega cases of corruption involving billions of rupees.
He further said since its inception in the year 1999, NAB Karachi has received more than 96000 complaints of which 2297 inquiries and 1176 investigations have been authorized and 919 references have been filed.
It is worth mentioning that an amount of Rs.15.194 Billion looted through corruption and corrupt practices has also been recovered, he added.
DG NAB Karachi while highlighting performance of the Karachi Bureau for the year 2022 said that NAB Karachi disposed off 4396 complaints, while carried out 10 inquiries, and 05 investigations. 43 accused persons were arrested and 07 references have been filed in the Accountability Courts while over Rs.430 million were also recovered during 2022.
He further said, Merit certificates were given to officers/officials of NAB Karachi in recognition of their best performance in the year 2022.
Certificates and cash prizes were also distributed among the winner students of declamation contest on anti-corruption theme that was held in English, Urdu and Sindhi language throughout colleges of Karachi, Hyderabad and Mirpurkhas Divisions.Mr. Ghulam Nabi Memon, Inspector General of Police, Sindh, Prof. Dr. Huma Baqai, Mr. Muhammad Ahmed Shah, President Art Council of Pakistan also spoke on the occasion
