Karachi – Sajan Union Towns Municipal Corporations (Registered) Karachi has issued a strong statement condemning the ongoing injustices and discriminatory practices faced by municipal employees at the hands of public representatives and certain administrative officers.
In a press briefing, Union spokesperson Abbas Ahmed stated that Sajan Union has always stood for the rights of employees without any discrimination based on race, language, or ethnicity. “We have defended the legitimate rights of employees in the past and will continue to do so in the future. We are not afraid of threats or pressure from anyone,” he said.
He emphasized that while the union fully supports lawful and impartial action against ghost, fake, or corrupt employees, selective targeting of specific staff will not be tolerated. “Municipal institutions are meant for public service, not political manipulation,” Ahmed added.
The spokesperson also highlighted that protest is a constitutional right of every employee, especially when faced with oppression and injustice. If public representatives conduct fair and legal actions across the board, the union will support them. However, any discriminatory or biased actions will be strongly opposed at every available forum.
Abbas Ahmed expressed serious concern over the situation in some towns where employees are facing salary deductions and are being denied their lawful retirement benefits, including leave encashment. “It is shameful that such actions are taking place in towns governed by the ruling party. The systems in these towns have become so powerful that even the Minister for Local Government appears helpless,” he stated.
He called on the Government of Sindh to take immediate notice of the issue. “If corrective action is not taken, these matters will soon be taken to court, which could become a source of embarrassment for the ruling party,” he warned.
The union has also appealed directly to PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari to review the briefing given by the Local Government Minister and take strict action against corrupt elements. “Only then can genuine local government employees find relief and work in a fair and supportive environment,” Ahmed concluded.
