A significant step towards inclusivity was taken in Jinnah Town as the Town Municipal Corporation organized a ration distribution ceremony for the transgender community.
The event aimed to support and uplift the community, particularly during the holy month of Ramadan.
Chairman Rizwan Abdul Sami addressed the participants, emphasizing that a comprehensive plan has been developed to address the issues faced by the transgender community in Jinnah Town.
The plan focuses on improving access to education, employment opportunities, and enhancing their social status.
Highlighting key initiatives, Chairman Sami announced that the town administration has launched various measures to better integrate the transgender community into society. These initiatives include a scheme to conduct a demographic survey of the transgender population in Jinnah Town, categorizing them based on age groups and educational levels. Following the survey, tailored schemes will be introduced, such as technical training schools and beautification courses to enhance their skills for employment in salons and other business sectors.
Furthermore, an employment initiative will be introduced to provide transgender individuals with motorcycles, enabling them to work with food delivery platforms like Foodpanda. The project is expected to expand to all transgender individuals within the town, offering them sustainable livelihood options.
Chairman Sami also emphasized that during the holy month of Ramadan, the ration distribution process will prioritize the transgender community to improve their quality of life.
He encouraged community members to seek the support of council member Sadia to engage in further schemes and initiatives that would empower the community and promote a positive image in society.
“Our objective is to improve the lives of transgender individuals and safeguard their rights. The success of this initiative relies heavily on community participation and feedback,” Chairman Sami concluded.
Vice Chairman Hamid Nawaz Khan also shared his thoughts, stating, “The transgender community is an essential part of our society, and it is our responsibility to ensure their well-being. Today’s ration distribution is just the beginning, and more initiatives will follow to support their dignified employment.”
Municipal Commissioner Raees Elahi Bakhsh Banbhan was also present at the event, emphasizing the administration’s commitment to supporting the transgender community through ongoing and future initiatives.
