Rafia Javed Mallah Additional Director Directorate of Inspection and Registration of Private Institutions Sindh on the occasion of World Book Day in her message to Educators and Students stated that, Today, as we celebrate World Book Day, I find myself reflecting on the profound role that books have played in shaping my own journey.

From my early years, literature was more than just a pastime—it was a gateway to wisdom, imagination, and self-discovery.

My family, especially my maternal uncle and grandfather, instilled in me the habit of reading, ensuring that we remained intellectually and morally enriched.

Their influence reaffirmed a timeless truth: Family matters, and family shapes our future.

Sadly, we see today’s generation drifting away from books.

The world has become more materialistic, valuing wealth in currency rather than wealth in knowledge.

The generation before us, though resourceful, understood balance—they contributed not just economically but intellectually and ethically.

But in today’s fast-paced digital era, where fleeting entertainment overshadows deep learning, we risk losing the very essence of what makes us thinkers, dreamers, and innovators.

I still remember an essay that I encountered during my first-year exams: “Books are Better than Bombs.” It struck a chord within me.

As a voracious reader, I understood that the true power of any society lies not in its weapons but in its wisdom.
Books shape nations, build civilizations, and inspire revolutions of thought.

History testifies that those who read, lead. Every great leader, scholar, and visionary was first a student of books.

On this World Book Day, I urge our educators to reignite the passion for reading in their students.

Teach them that books are more than just pages bound together; they are vessels of knowledge, bearers of history, and architects of the future.

To our students, I say: Pick up a book, not just for your exams, but for your soul. Read to learn, to grow, to question, and to dream.

Let us strive to create a generation that values books over distractions, intellect over ignorance, and wisdom over wealth. Because nations that read are nations that rise.

Happy World Book Day!
