Karachi Shaken by Earthquake for Second Day in a Row
Karachi: Residents of Karachi were once again jolted by a mild earthquake early Monday morning — the second tremor in less than 24 hours.
According to the National Seismological Center, the earthquake measured 3.2 on the Richter scale, with its epicentre near Quaidabad and a shallow depth. Though minor, the quake was widely felt across several areas of the city, triggering panic among residents.
Tremors were reported from Quaidabad, Malir, Landhi, Sherpao Colony, Port Qasim, and nearby locations. Eyewitnesses said people rushed out of buildings, chanting Allahu Akbar, with many gathering in open areas in fear.
This follows a similar 3.2 magnitude earthquake recorded at 1:06 am, with its epicentre near Gadap Town. That late-night tremor was also felt in Khokhrapar, Landhi, Malir, Future Mor, and Hospital Chowrangi. Fortunately, no casualties or property damage were reported in either incident.
Despite the low intensity, the back-to-back quakes have raised concerns among Karachiites. Experts have urged authorities to strengthen preparedness measures, especially since Karachi lies near tectonic boundaries and faces risks due to rapid urban development.
Officials have requested the public to stay calm, follow emergency protocols, and refrain from spreading unverified information. So far, no structural damage or injuries have been reported.
