A one-day workshop on Civic Education was organized by Shehri-Citizens for a Better Environment in collaboration with Friedrich Naumann Foundation at Hyderabad.

The participants were trained in the concepts of society, politics, civic engagement and importance of vote. Ross Mahtani, moderator of the workshop said that young people can contribute a lot in society, when they know about their rights and responsibilities as citizen. These skills will also help them succeed in adulthood. He said that lack of awareness about civic education and lack of adequate skills are significant causes of young people’s social unrest. Ross Mahtani also discussed the Sindh Youth Policy 2018 and emphasized to implement the policy in its true spirit and essence.

Advocate M. Parkash who was invited as a guest speaker said that Educational institutions should incorporate civic education in the curriculum. The young people will benefit from having a better understanding of the various institutions and branches of government as a result of this. Additionally, it will educate them on the importance of voting and their civic obligations.

Earlier, Sarwar Khalid, representative of Shehri, provided background about Shehri organization and its work. He said Young people have a massive stake in the decisions that shape the country. The workshop was attended by college and university students. At the end, certificates were distributed among the participants.
