The serving and retired employees and officers of the Karachi Development Authority (KDA) are facing a grave crisis due to the non-payment of salaries and pensions.
As inflation continues to rise sharply, retired employees are struggling to manage basic expenses without their entitled pensions, while the KDA administration remains silent.
In response to the situation, a strong protest was held in front of the DG KDA office, organized by the Workers Union and the Pensioners Welfare Association.
Dozens of representatives and members participated, raising slogans against the current administration and demanding immediate disbursement of dues.
Addressing the protest, KDA Workers Union leaders Sajid Hassan and Nazakat Ali Khan issued a stern warning to the DG KDA, declaring that if pensions are not paid by Thursday, a large-scale protest will follow.
They stated that full responsibility for the consequences will lie with the KDA administration.
“The retired employees dedicated their entire lives to this institution. It is unacceptable that they are now being denied their rightful pensions. This injustice will no longer be tolerated,” said Sajid Hassan.
He further criticized the DG KDA and Director Finance, alleging that despite lavish spending on personal luxuries  including maintenance expenses of over one million rupees for official vehicles ,the administration pleads financial shortfall when it comes to paying pensions. “We will no longer remain silent. Our protest will escalate,” he warned.
Prominent figures from the Workers Union, including Anees Usmani, Naeem, and Nisar Ahmed Sheikh, also joined the protest, expressing solidarity with the pensioners and demanding justice.
Members of the Pensioners Welfare Association also appealed to the Sindh government and KDA administration to ensure immediate payment of all pending dues. They warned that if their demands are not met, the protest movement would spread citywide.
