In a significant move to promote equal learning opportunities, the Government of Sindh has mandated the establishment of Book Banks in all privately managed schools across the province. The directive, issued by the Directorate of Inspection & Registration of Private Institutions Sindh (School Education & Literacy Department), aims to provide academic support to underprivileged students and minimize financial burdens on families.

Under this initiative, private schools will set up centralized repositories where students can donate gently used textbooks. This system is expected to encourage a culture of educational resource-sharing, ensuring that students in need have access to essential learning materials.

The directive emphasizes that no undue pressure should be placed on students to donate books, and schools must appoint a Focal Person to oversee the proper functioning of the Book Bank.

Rafia Javed, Additional Director of Registration, highlighted that the initiative aligns with the government’s vision of “Education for All,” ensuring equal access to academic resources while promoting sustainability and community involvement in education.

The initiative follows similar steps taken in public sector schools, aiming to reduce academic resource wastage and foster social welfare through collaboration. By implementing Book Banks, private schools are expected to contribute significantly to reducing financial barriers and enhancing academic inclusivity across Sindh.
