Karachi: Muhammad Afzal Odho District Health Officer of District Korangi Karachi revealed that Sindh Health Care Commission (SHCC) is not working in coordination with the department regarding action against Quacks, his office have powers to issue notices to Quacks and he admitted that SHCC have sealing authority of any premises in case of violation, he shared these views while speaking with Daily City News Correspondent at his office on Thursday.
He stated that the District Health Office (DHO) has three sections on which the department works, 1. Administrative, 2. Preventive and 3. Curative. He informed that, in the curative section DHO Office identified Quacks and issued notices to them, after the identification and notice serving, the department informed SHCC for further action.
DHO Korangi told two months back Deputy Commissioner called a meeting regarding rising ratio of Quacks in the district which was attended by SHCC officials, DHO Korangi Office officials, Assistant Commissioners and Police, in the said meeting it was decided to make a strong coordination between the SHCC, DHO and DC Office to ensure action against Quacks.
However, he said till now SHCC officials have not given a positive response regarding the decisions of meeting for the smooth coordination between District Administration and SHCC.
He admitted that Quacks are rising in the district because of lack of coordination, whereas on the question of which department has the right to serve notice to health facilities as SHCC officials said that it is their right to take action and serve notices to Quacks.
He said that, “If this is not our right to serve notices to quacks then the curative section in DHO office should have to be closed, Our work is to identify Quacks and SHCC work is to take action”.
The Daily City News Correspondent got four copies of such notices served to different health facilities/Quacks, whereas in three of them it was written to contact Mr. Amir Shehzad and in one letter Mr. Umair name mentioned with the instructions to contact them at 25 Bedded Hospital Malir Shed.
On the question of notices serving to health facilities to bring their record in Sindh Government Malir Shed Hospital with the signatures of previous DHO and the person which was serving notices in the area also involve in blackmailing them, he answered that he has given powers to some employees to serve notices and the previous DHO signature notices were issued to some because staff photocopied the letters in bulk and only health facility premises name left blank in the photocopies to serve to them by mentioning their names.
He also said if any complainant will come to his office then he will take action, otherwise on the publications of news he will not take action.
Daily City News Correspondent contacted the Spokesperson health department through whatsapp message and asked question regarding which department is authorize to take action against Quacks but she did not respond.
