Syed Zulfiqar Shah, the Central President of Sajjan union, met with Financial Advisor of Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) Gulzar Ali to discuss the resolution of issues faced by retired and family pensioners.
During the meeting, Ali informed Shah that the profits from the investments made this month will be used to make payments to retired and deceased pensioners from March 2017 to March 2018.
Additionally, the department has been allocating 10 crore rupees every month for pensioners, including 6 crore for meritorious pensioners, 1.5 crore for pensioners suffering from chronic diseases, and 2.5 crore for court cases and other needy pensioners.
Shah requested Ali to prioritize the payment of 75% family pension and restore the restoration pension for those aged 72 and above.
The financial advisor assured Sajjan Union Central President of addressing the pensioners’ issues on a priority basis.
In a separate meeting with senior director of HR, KMC Syed Saif Abbas, Shah expressed his concerns over the promotion of junior employees on the basis of recommendations rather than seniority and fitness.
Shah requested the promotion approval papers, to which Abbas replied that the Departmental Promotion Committee (DPC) was prepared in 2023 but was pending due to a delay. Abbas stated that he had issued orders after approving the DPC and that it is the legal right of every employee to file objections.
He further assured that the union would be provided with all the documents under the Right to Information Act and that no compromise would be made on seniority.
