Registrar Cooperative Societies Zameer Abbasi in a press statement stated that, After detailed scrutiny of record of societies, approximately 97 housing societies & 71 other societies have been found to be controlled by land mafia on the back of dummy management committees.
They manipulate record of land, grab it, and sell it off for personal gains, illegally. They manage record of members in such a way that as and when elections are held, they should vote to elect dummy committees backed by gangs and land mafia.
Such societies have been operating through managed audit and inquiries in past.
The illegalities have assured organised proportions, so a drive to rip it off has been initiated.
Occupants mafia has been given tough time by removing their cronies and some societies have been manned by reputable committees, in first phase.
Consequently, they have started smear campaign and propaganda through social media against Registrar and officers of cooperative Department, which is completely baseless.
The drive shall continue transparently and under the laws and rules in liaison with law enforcement agencies to the entire satisfaction of society at large.
The public is encouraged to point out illegalities operating from front or on back in housing societies.
