Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) suffered a major setback before the NA-249 elections. According to details, the PTI has issued a ticket to Amjad Afridi for the NA-249 by-election. However, there are differences in the PTI leadership over giving a ticket to Amjad Afridi. PTI Sindh Assembly member Malik Shehzad Awan from PS-116 strongly opposed giving party ticket to Amjad Afridi and sent his resignation to the opposition leader in Sindh Assembly Haleem Adil Sheikh.
He said that the person who has lost the UC and Provincial Assembly elections was given a ticket on what basis. Our candidate is very weak, the eyes of the whole country are on N249 at the moment, Baldia Town is my home, I can’t see the party funeral coming out of my house.
He said that we have to win this seat in any case and give it as a gift to the Prime Minister. If we look at the history of the incumbent candidate, the leadership will understand.
It may be recalled that news came out yesterday that there is a possibility of a political alliance between Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and Tehreek-e-Libek Pakistan (TLP) on the issue of NA-249 by-election. PTI Karachi leadership and TLP leadership have had a telephonic conversation with regard to the NA-249 elections, both parties have considered fielding a joint candidate.
Further, that NA-249 was vacated after the resignation of Faisal Vawda. In the 2018 elections, he defeated PML-N President Mian Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif the winning candidate received more than 35,000 votes, while the losing candidate received more than 34,000 votes. Mufti Abid Mubarak of Tehreek-e-Lubaik Pakistan polled more than 23,000 votes.
