The KDA Mazdoor Union, led by Chairman Abdul Mateen Shaikh, held a protest outside the office of the Director General (DG) of Karachi Development Authority (KDA) on Monday, expressing strong dissatisfaction over the DG’s alleged disinterest in approving long-pending cases of retired employees and promotion files of Grade 16 and 17 officers.

Speaking to the media, Chairman Shaikh revealed that the union delegation had met the DG last Thursday and raised concerns regarding pension and dues files of retired employees that have been lying pending at the DG’s office for the past 3 to 4 months. However, the DG reportedly showed no intention of resolving the matter.

“The DG told us he will retire in three months and will not approve any files during his tenure. It seems he considers this office to be his personal property,” said Shaikh. “But the employees are the true custodians of KDA.”

In addition to the pension cases, the union also highlighted the long-delayed promotion files of Grade 16 and 17 officers that await finalization at the DG’s office.

Chairman Shaikh held the DG responsible for the poor performance of the Land and Recovery Department, blaming his lack of interest and refusal to sign necessary documents as key reasons for the institution’s inefficiency.

He demanded that the Sindh government take immediate action and remove the DG from office. “He should either work or be removed,” Shaikh said, calling on Local Government Minister Saeed Ghani to intervene and transfer the DG. “Let him spend his remaining time drinking tea and water at home.”

The union leader urged all KDA employees to support the Mazdoor Union in its call for justice. “KDA employees have served Karachi for decades. They deserve respect and timely approval of their rightful dues and promotions,” he concluded.
