The Karachi Development Authority Employees Union (CBA) held a protest today in front of the DG office at Civic Center, Karachi.
The protest was against the continued delays in the approval of their worker-friendly Charter of Demand by the Governing Body (GB).
Several prominent figures addressed the crowd, including Sindh Assembly members Farhan Ahmed Ansari and Engineer Usman.
Ansari assured the KDA employees that he would raise their concerns in the Sindh Provincial Assembly and would not tolerate the injustice being done to them.
Engineer Usman stated that he would contact the Sindh Minister for Local Government to expedite the approval of the Charter of Demand and the payment of dues to retired employees.
Arshad Ansari Incharge of the MQM (Pakistan) Labour Division, criticized the Pakistan Peoples Party government for the destruction of Karachi’s institutions over the past fifteen years.
He vowed that the MQM (Pakistan) Labour Division would continue to fight for the rights of KDA employees.
Muhammad Abdul Maroof, President of the Employees Union (CBA), expressed his frustration on the six-month delay in convening a Governing Body (GB) meeting to discuss the Charter of Demand.
He accused the administration of using delaying tactics and called upon the Sindh Minister for Local Government and Chairman of the Governing Body, Saeed Ghani, to immediately convene a GB meeting and approve the charter.
Qamar Abbas, General Secretary of the Employees Union (CBA), echoed the call for the immediate approval of the Charter of Demand. He also demanded that the Director General of KDA be given more authority to resolve employee issues.
The protest saw a large turnout of KDA employees and was attended by several other notable individuals, including Sindh Assembly members Farhan Ahmed Ansari and Engineer Usman, MQM (Pakistan) Labour Division officials Arshad Ansari, Nadeem Khan, Mushtaq Ali, KDA Unit Incharge and CBA Chief Organizer Syed Imran Hussain, Information Secretary Yasir Ali Khan, Joint In-charges Aamir Muhammad and Muhammad Akbar, and members of the Unit Committee and CBA were also present on the occasion.
