KARACHI: Thousands of women under the banner of Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) marched against excruciating increase in electricity tariff, demanding instant relief and waiver of heavy taxes in the bills.

The demonstration, termed largest in the current wave of power protests, was held on New MA Jinnah Road.

Women from various walks of life participated in the event, carrying placards and banners that criticized both the caretaker government and K-Electric for the mounting expenses.

Addressing the crowd, JI Karachi Amir Hafiz Naeemur Rehman emphasised that the reluctance displayed by the caretaker government towards addressing the issue of high bills has pushed the women of Karachi to take to the streets.

He praised the women for their massive turnout, highlighting that the people of Karachi are demanding their rightful dues rather than seeking charity.

He urged caretaker Prime Minister Anwarul Haq Kakar to either provide substantial relief or step down.
