Daily City News observes an employee of Health Department is allegedly involved in serving notices to Quacks on behalf of DHO Korangi Office with the aim of receiving bribe to allow them to work through and blackmailing them to present in person at the 25 Bedded Hospital Malir Shed of District Korangi to verify the record.
Daily City News got the copies of notices which were served to different Quacks / Doctors of clinics/health facilities in Malir on the letter head and signatures of Office of The District Health Officer District Korangi Karachi, with the subject of “Notice Under ordinance No. XXVI of 1982 (Medical Degree Act) Ordinance No. IXV of 1962 The Allopathic System (Prevention of misuse)” .
However the following instructions were written on the said notice, 1. Copy of Degree/Diploma is not displayed/available, 2. Valid Coy of PMDC registration is not available, 3. Sterilization of instruments in not proper/is unhygienic, 4. You are falsely assuming/using Medical, Dental title, 5.Disposable syringes as specified under section /rule is not being used , 6.You are found guilty of allopathic medicines.
On the other hand, It was learned that Sindh Healthcare Commission (SHCC) is an autonomous body to improve the quality of healthcare services, to ban quackery, to register all health facilities, to impose fine and sealed the premises in case of non-compliance in all over Sindh province.
Although one of the person to whom the notice served informed Daily City News Correspondent that the notice was served to him by an employee of Health Department namely Umair allegedly posted at 25 Bedded Malir Shed Hospital as a lab assistant.
He also stated that the said person has misbehaved with him and pretending to be an higher official of Health Department, asked him to visit 25 Bedded Hospital but he did not came into his pressure and he directly visited the DHO Korangi Office where DHO denied of issuing such letter and termed it fake.
It was observed that, DHO Korangi in a letter No. DHO/DKK/2010/14 dated 18/11/2022 informed DG Health Services about the involvement of Muhammad Umair Lab Assistant in illegal practices in Malir Shed Hospital and has relieved from district korangi for the best interest of public.
The Daily News Correspondent got four copies of such notices served to different health facilities/Quacks, whereas in three of them it was written to contact Mr. Amir Shehzad and in one letter Mr. Umair name mentioned with the instructions to contact them at 25 Bedded Hospital Malir Shed.
Sources informed that it not possible that only one person will be behind this all blackmailing and taking bribe, as the said employee is allegedly taking 1.5 to 2 Lac rupees from Quacks for granting them permission to run their operations, the health department should conduct inquiry into this matter to identify all the culprits behind this criminal act.
It is also Question mark on the efficiency of Health Department as inspecting and registering Health facilities is now the mandate of SHCC, then why DHO Korangi office is silent on issuance of such letters, for the authenticity of said letters Daily City News correspondent contacted DHO Korangi Mr. Afzal Odho but he did not responded on whatsapp message or call.
