KARACHI: PPP Senator and former Sindh minister Saeed Ghani has said that the charges of land grabbing and drug dealing leveled against him by a rival politician were baseless, and fabricated from the very beginning.

Ghani said this in a video message delivered on Saturday at the District and Sessions Court in Karachi. The message followed the retraction of charges that were brought against him by former opposition leader in the Sindh Assembly Haleem Adil Shaikh.

Three years ago, Shaikh had publicly made these allegations against Ghani at a news conference, prompting Ghani to file both civil and criminal cases against him in the court of additional sessions judge for district south.

On Saturday, the judge suggested reconciliation between both parties. Ghani emphasised that his stance regarding such a request from the judge had always been crystal clear: Shaikh should retract his allegations against him.

In a significant turn of events, Shaikh agreed to withdraw the accusations in front of the judge, and the allegations were duly withdrawn.

In a reciprocal move, Ghani announced to withdraw the cases he had filed against Shaikh.
