Civic Center Karachi Security at Risk as Retired staff reportedly still performing security duty
A Major public office building Civic center located in Gulshan e Iqbal area of Karachi security is at risk as allegedly the retired security staff is performing duties in Shift A who are busy in collecting money from the visitors for allowing them to park their vehicles from Gate 2 of Civic Center.
It was revealed that in the current month a visitor also lost his bike which parked on gate 2, due to the presence of illegally posted retired staff and non presence of cameras on gate 2, it is not allowed legally to perform duty with wearing of security uniform after the retirement but the SO Operation and Shift A supervisor reportedly okays the posting of retired employees for the security of one of the important public building of Karachi city.
On the anonymity of name an officer of KDA revealed that, Shift A Incharge of Security Department is involved in corrupt practices as he is not leaving or rotating from this shift for a long time and the security officer operations of KDA also involves with him and supporting him as this is a matter of thousands of rupees daily collection of money from the visitors and specially brokers who can easily enter into the building by paying the money to security staff without any security check.
The Civic Center Karachi consists of 10 floors with around 250 rooms and the total area is about 4,70,000 Square Yard and it is mainly a property of KDA and the security, maintenance and renovation is also the responsibility of the said department.
It was learned that in civic centre there are seven external and five internal gates however offices of Karachi Development Authority-KDA, Sindh Building Control Authority- SBCA, Excise & Taxation Department, K-Electric, House Building Finance Corporation-HBFC, including Habib Bank, National Bank of Pakistan Branches and Command & Control Center are also located in its jurisdiction.
The Shift A Security Incharge including staff of this shift is also involved in backing illegal charged parking from gate 2 to gate 6 of civic center, whereas they are also reportedly involved in giving permission for shifting of different types of scrape by taking money.
KDA Security Department which has the responsibility to secure the civic center, this department is also facing the shortage of staff as well as the shortage of security equipment including the body scanners.
Whereas, the communication system is also affected as “Walkie Talkie” are also reportedly not working due to which in case of any incident security staff could not get in touch immediately with their officers or other staff.
