Caritas Pakistan Karachi on way to Strengthen Communities to Cope Disaster

Caritas Pakistan Karachi organized its 4th DRR Management Conference at Nafeesa Wilson Researcher & Training Hall on 13th of October, 2021 under their Community Based Disaster Risk Management (CBDRM) Project, with theme “Strengthening Communities Copping Practices to Response Disaster”.

During this over 20 core volunteers and Disaster Management Committees (DMCs) related to community Based Disaster Risk Management (CBDRM) Project participated in the event. The main objective was to build the capacity of Volunteers and DMCs members on Strengthening Communities best copping practices to response the disaster and Role of women in Disaster.

Honorable Mr. Antony Naveed, Member Sindh Assembly was the Chief Guest at the occasion, along with him Mr. Muhammad Toheed Urban Town Planner from IBA, Dr. Daniel Bashir and Mansha Noor, Executive Secretary CPK were the resource persons.

Mr. Mansha Noor, the executive secretary of Caritas Pakistan Karachi, said that International Day for Natural Disaster Reduction was observed annually on 13th of October with a view to spread awareness about natural disaster and various ways to overcome the crises and we do observe this day with our volunteers to build their capacity and appreciate and recognition their selfless services and contribution for the Emergency and Humanitarian interventions.

The Chief Guest Mr. Anthony Naveed (MPA Sindh) in his speech appreciated Caritas Karachi to organize disaster Management conference for grassroots community workers specially women to build their capacity to response any disaster in effective way.

Mr. John Rehmat, program coordinator facilitated the session on Role of Women in Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR). He said role of women in disaster response was very vital and important that without the full participation and contribution of women in decision-making and leadership, real community resilience to disasters may not be achieved.

Mr. Rehmat concluded his speech said that Community, therefore, needs to recognize the productive and constructive role of women to encourage them to move forward and to share their knowledge and experiences in disaster planning and management to build their community a resilient one.

Mr. Muhammad Toheed , Urban Town Planner from Institute of Business Administration (IBA) University deliver his speech on topic of “Communities Copping Practices to Response Disaster” and highlight the gaps between the policies makers and communities on disaster response.

Mr. Amir Robin, National Monitoring & Evaluation Coordinator gave introduction of the Caritas Pakistan and DRR Day which aim to build the capacity of the volunteers about their role & responsibility to utilize their learning more effectively and efficiently during and after disaster.
