Assistant Commissioner Gulberg of District Central Karachi Hassan Zafar has imposed fines on Point of Sales within the jurisdiction of Subdivision Gulberg over violation of Tobacco Control laws .
It was learned that Assistant Commissioners of District Central are the members of the Task Force for compliance on Tobacco Control Laws in District Central.
The Task Force notified in District Central whose Chairman is Additional Deputy Commissioner-I District Central Muhammad Asif Junejo, the task force aims to ensure compliance on Tobacco Control laws.
The Assistant Commissioner Gulberg has taken strict action through not only imposing fines but he also warned the Point of Sales owners to ensure compliance on Tobacco Control laws.
He emphasized on Point of Sales owners to not sale cigarettes to under 18 age and also asked them to display a message that cigarettes will not be provided to under 18 age.
However, he is also taking action against Point of Sales on selling tobacco products within the 50 meters radius of educational institutions.
The Enforcement action underscores the administration’s commitment to curbing tobacco related harm and promoting public health and it also send a clear message that the district administration is vigilant in protecting the lives of citizens from tobacco use hazards.
The Provincial Coordinator of Provincial Tobacco Control Cell Sindh Tanveer Qaimkhani praised the efforts of District Administration Central specially the initiative of Assistant Commissioner Gulberg on taking action against the violators of tobacco control laws through imposing fines.
He also expressed hope that all Assistant Commissioners of District Central would take action against tobacco control laws violators to save future generations from the deadly impacts of tobacco use on human health.
