The Islamabad High Court (IHC) fixed Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chief Imran Khan’s restoration of bail appeal pleas in the £190 million Al-Qadir Trust reference and the Toshakhana NAB investigation cases for November 7, on Saturday.
As per the cause list issued by the IHC Chief Justice Aamer Farooq and Justice Tariq Mahmood Jahangiri will lead the hearing. The court has issued notices to the Election Commission of Pakistan, as mentioned in the appeal.
In his petition, Imran challenged the trial court’s decision dated August 5, in which, his sentence was suspended in the Toshakhana case but his conviction remained intact. He prayed the court to suspend the trial court’s August 5 judgment.
Furthermore, the accountability court had dismissed the deposed premier’s bail in NAB cases for non-compliance. It should be noted that the two-member bench has already restored the guarantees of chairman PTI in six cases.
The PTI chief was granted bail after the suspension of his sentence in the Toshakhana (gift repository case). However, he is currently detained in Adiala Jail in the missing cypher case.
Despite the suspension of his sentence, Imran’s conviction in the Toshakhana case remained intact. It will prevent him from contesting the upcoming elections unless the trial court’s judgment is overturned.
Faisal Siddiqi Advocate stated that Imran Khan’s legal team made a significant mistake by not requesting the suspension of the trial court’s August 5 judgment. They only requested the suspension of his sentence and his release on bail.
