An emergency meeting of the University of Karachi Officers Welfare Association held under the chairmanship of President Officers Welfare Association Dr. Muhammad Hassan Auj. In the meeting, serious concern was expressed over the financial situation of the University of Karachi. In the meeting, the measures taken for non-payment of salaries were appreciated and it was decided to work on Friday by tying black bands.
During meeting participants were told that University of Karachi is suffering from severe financial crisis, the main reason of which is financial mismanagement and Director of Finance Tariq Kaleem is mainly responsible for it.
The delay in salaries is increasing, Even University have no money to pay utility bills, the electricity bill of 60 Million Rupees of September has not been paid yet due to which there is fear of electricity disconnection and if electricity disconnected chemicals worth millions of rupees in the labs will spoiled and also there will be educational loss for the students.
Dr. Hassan Auj told the participants that salary for November will be received with delay, but it is difficult to get the salary for the month of December because no grant is received from the federal and provincial HEC in the month of December.
He stated that, The job of Director Finance in any institution is to work to generate funds , but the current director finance seems to be busy all the time in creating difficulties for the University of Karachi . Whereas, Apart from the salaries, the contractual morning program and evening program teachers renumeration for teaching also stop from two years.
Similarly, the lab staff serving in the evening program are also unable to receive the remuneration received for the evening program.
On the other hand, along with non-payment of medical bills, the panels in various hospitals of the University of Karachi have also been closed due to which the employees of the University have also deprive from health facilities.
The participants of meeting urged Vice Chancellor Professor Dr. Khalid Mahmood Iraqi, Secretary Universities and Boards Mureed Rahimon and Chief Minister Sindh Syed Murad Ali Shah to ensure the appointment of Director Finance on permanent basis as soon as possible to save University from further destruction and to save the future of thousands of students and employees from getting dark.
