A Shopkeeper arrested in Pakistan’s business hub Karachi for selling cigerattes to children’s on the first day of Holy Festival Eidul Fitr.
SHO Nazimabad Police Station Muhammad Riaz confirmed that the police team has arrested two persons after the video went viral on social media of selling cigerattes to childrens.
However Station House Officer informed that the police team has raided on MD Pan Shop on Tuesday and confiscated several brands of cigerattes which were selling to minors by violating the law.
It was learned that an FIR lodged agaisnt shopkeepers namely Sajid Hussain and Sadiq Hussain in Nazimabad Police Station under section 269/34.
On the other hand Syed Jawwad Muzaffar Additional Commissioner Karachi /Focal Person Tobacco Smoke Free Karachi issued directives to police to challan the said shopkeepers under section 8 of ” Prohibition of Smoking & Protection of Non Smokers Health Ordinance” which prohibits sale of cigerattes to under 18 years age.
In addition, The District Administration East and South recently issued directives of Tobacco Smoke-Free Cities Ministry of NHSR&C staff as an authorised officer for compliance on Tobacco Control laws by which the police department is actively working with their coordination for strict compliance on Tobacco Control laws.
Muhammad Aftab Project Manager TSFC Ministry of NHSRC stated that it is the achievement of Police, District administration and TSFC that shopkeepers held in city for selling cigerattes to underage children’s.
