Sindh High Court (SHC) on Friday extended interim bails of alleged front men of former opposition leader National Assembly and current MNA of Pakistan Peoples’ Party (PPP) Syed Khursheed Shah regarding the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) inquiry in assets beyond means.

A two-member bench of the SHC, headed by Chief Justice Ahmed Ali Shaikh, heard the bail pleas of Muhammad Ikram Gul and Hassan Shaikh, alleged front men of Shah, and extended their interim bail till the 8th October. The court also sought details regarding the posts, degrees and experiences of those who observed and passed the standard and quality of constructed roads.

The counsel of accused submitted to the bench that NAB had sent call-up notice to owners of Khan brothers and Umar Jan Company in a connection with Khursheed Shah’s inquiry.

The counsel submitted that both accused appeared before investigation officer of NAB who asked them only two questions.

He submitted both questions were regarding being alleged front men of Khursheed Shah and standard and quality of roads constructed by them on government contract.

The counsel argued if the accused were alleged front men then question regarding the quality of construction was irrelevant. But, if question was regarding the road contracts then allegations of being front men is baseless.

He said roads were constructed as per required standard. Chief Justice asked who was checking the quality of work of these companies. At which, NAB prosecutor replied that a team, headed by superintendent engineer, was working and observing their quality and standard.
