Science festival held in Islamabad

Islamabad Science Festival was held at Pakistan National Council of Arts on Saturday, 13th February 2021. The event was organized by Campaignistan in partnership with ICT administration on the theme ‘Covid-19’.

Deputy Commissioner Islamabad Hamza Shafqaat inaugurated the event and visited each stall to learn about the projects displayed.

Around 80 schools from across Islamabad participated enthusiastically in the festival and displayed their projects ranging from walk-in sanitizing stations, precautions against corona, myth-busting against covid-19 remedies etc.

This was the second science festival held in Islamabad, the first one was held in 2019.

Both events proved to be successes in providing a platform for students and teachers to display their talents and in promoting the love for science and learning.All the way from Thar, Rohan Kumar, a 9th grade student arrived at the festival with the aim to break the world record for fastest attempt to arrange the periodic table.

The existing record is 2 min 42 seconds and Rohan finished the task in 1 min 58 seconds.

The moment was witnessed by Deputy Commissioner Islamabad Hamza Shafqat and President ECOSF Manzoor Soomro.Rohan has since been invited by Minister for Science and Technology Fawad Chaudhry in attempt to laud his talent and dedication towards Science.

Rohan was accompanied by Partab Shiwani, CEO Thar Education Alliance, both Partab and Rohan wish to use this opportunity to shed light on the state of education in Tharparkar.

According to world statistics, 50% of the population in Tharparkar is under the age of () – out of 8.5 lac children of school going age, only 2 lac children are enrolled in the education system. Consequently, the learning outcomes of Math and Science are also below par in the district in particular and Sindh province in general.

Rohan and Partab hope their efforts will help improve the quality of education in Sindh.

The event culminated with the closing ceremony and prize distribution with the honourable Chief Guests Shehram Khan Taraqai (Minister of Education, Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa) and Rana Waqas (Additional Deputy Commissioner General, ICT).
