A Meeting of Karachi Implementation and Monitoring Committee (KIMC) on Tobacco Control held on Wednesday at Commissioner Karachi Office under the chair of Additional Commissioner Karachi/ Focal Person Tobacco Control Commissioner Karachi Office.
It was attended by the representatives from Deputy Commissioner Offices, Police, Education ,Health, Cantonment Boards, Railway, Social Welfare, Auqaf , Traffic Police, Sindh Food Authority including other departments .
While Sharing his views Additional Commissioner Karachi/ Focal Person Tobacco Control stated that the KIMC Meeting was held to devise a road mapp for Smoke Free Karachi Division through compliance of Tobacco Control laws and to make successful the vision of Commissioner Karachi of a Smoke Free Model City .
Additional Commissioner Karachi invited Project Director Tobacco Smoke Free Cities (TSFC) Ministry of National Health Services, Regulations and Coordination (NHSRC) Government of Pakistan to shed light on Tobacco Control laws, ongoing activities of TSFC from almost two years in Karachi and the worst impacts of tobacco use.

He also said that TSFC got numerous achievements in Karachi city by the support of district government departments and commissioner Karachi office. He informed that Commissioner Karachi has set up a desk for tobacco control at commissioner office to monitor the activities and enforcement of tobacco control laws.
However he added that, this year on the occasion of World No Tobacco Day TSFC with the collaboration of Commissioner Karachi office is planning to organize different healthy activities which includes sports activity, enforcement campaign at Food outlets and Public Service Vehicles.
He also thanked to the Commissioner Karachi , Additional Commissioner Karachi and Deputy Commissioner Offices for their continuous support to TSFC staff to make Karachi a Model Tobacco Smoke Free City.
At the End Additional Commissioner Karachi praised the efforts of TSFC and asked all stakeholder to play their vital role for the compliance of tobacco control laws.
Sharing about the future initiatives he added that Tobacco Cessation clinics would be established in all districts of Karachi city .
Further he said to declare Karachi South and East Smoke Free within six months complying tobacco control laws at maximum level
