Pakistan and Iran have jointly initiated the PCMD-Royan Institute Webinar Series (Hybrid) to highlight the contemporary topics of Biomedical Sciences.

This kind of new webinar series is being jointly organized by Dr. Panjwani Center for Molecular Medicine and Drug Research (PCMD), University of Karachi, Royan Institute, Iran, and Sindh Innovation, Research, and Education Network (SIREN).

Delivering an opening speech in the first webinar, held at the Dr. Panjwani Center, Prof. Dr. M. Iqbal Choudhary, Director of the International Center for Chemical and Biological Sciences, and COMSTECH Coordinator General highlighted the importance of this series of webinars. He said that this webinar series was being initiated between the two premier institutions of the OIC countries, PCMD in Pakistan and Royan institute in Iran, a premium institution in reproductive health and regenerative medicine. He added that this lecture series had received patronage from many other organizations including COMSTECH.

The objective of initiating the lecture series not only for the scientists and students of two institutions but also for scholars from other universities, is to understand and appreciate the quality of work being carried out at the two institutions, he said and pointed out that Pakistan and Iran have long tradition of friendship and brotherhood.

Dr. Irfan Khan, Assistant Professor at the Dr. Panjwani Center, conducted the first seminar entitled, “Perinatal Stem Cell Derivatives for the Regeneration of Spinal Cord Injury.”

Dr. Khan, in his talk, highlighted basic insight of perinatal stem cells and their role in the management of spinal cord injuries, and discussed how perinatal stem cells and their derivatives could impact the future of regenerative medicine.

More than 250 undergraduate and graduate students as well as scientists and researchers working in the relevant fields attended the webinar, online and in-person. In the end, Prof. Dr. Asmat Salim acknowledged the contributions and efforts of all members of Royan Institute and PCMD in organizing the event.
