ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court on Tuesday dismissed an appeal filed against grant of bail to PML-N Senior Vice President Maryam Nawaz after the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) withdrew the case.
NAB on December 7, 2019 approached the SC requesting it to set aside an order passed by the Lahore High Court (LHC), granting post-arrest bail to Maryam Nawaz in the Chaudhry Sugar Mills case.
However, when a three-member bench led by Chief Justice of Pakistan Umar Ata Bandial resumed hearing the case, NAB prosecutor informed it that the graft buster wanted to withdraw the appeal.
He said after amendments in the National Accountability Ordinance, 1999 (NAO)—a law that governs NAB—the country’s top accountability watchdog could not pursue the appeal.
The bench later dismissed the appeal. When the NAB prosecutor requested the court to describe the appeal as being disposed of and not dismissed, the CJP told the prosecutor that he would “like” the Supreme Court written order in the case.
