Mayor Karachi Waseem Akhter said that the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation would ensure the safety of doctors and paramedics despite limited resources, shared these views while receiving kits from Al-Khidmat Foundation representatives at Abbasi Shaheed Hospital on Saturday.

Senior Director Coordination Masood Alam, Jamaat-e-Islami Karachi Chief Hafiz Naeem ur Rehman, Senior Director Medical Services Dr Salma Kausar, Medcial Superintendent Dr Nadeem Rajput and others were also present on the occasion.

Akhtar asked the provincial government to release funds so that doctors and paramedics could be given increased salaries. He was of the view that Sindh government provides grant to Karachi Metropolitan Corporation for salaries and pensions of employees but in that amount they cannot give 15 per cent increment to doctors and other paramedics.

“We have written many letters to Sindh government but to no avail,” he said.

Akhtar said that this is not the time to do politics but every political party should unify and form a mechanism on one platform,” Akhtar added.

He was of the view that many developed counties of the world also face coronavirus pandemic and this could only be overcome through united efforts. He said that patients are served regardless of thier creed and caste at the hospitals. Karachi is densely populated city thats why it was essential to keep hospitals alert 24 hours.

Speaking on the occasion, Jamaat-e-Islami Karachi Chief Hafiz Naeem ur Rehman said that Al Khidmat stands besides the Mayor and they all are on same page on this difficult time. The doctors and paramedics have been provided face mask and other kits so that they could perform their duties after adopting precautionary measures. On the occasion, fumigation was also done by Al Khidmat in different wards of Abbasi Shaheed Hospital.
