The Referendum for CBA in Karachi Development Authority (KDA) is going to held after almost six years as the last referendum held in April 2017 and now it is decided that the referendum for CBA will be held on 6th March 2023.
It was learned that around 1650 employees of KDA will use their voting right in this referendum, whereas four unions are contesting in it, among all the unions, currently KDA Employees Union an affiliated Union of United Labour Federation MQM Pakistan is in the lead with a strong position and has been allotted the election symbol Mukka.
However, Umbrella symbol allotted to Mazdoor Union, Shama to Labour Union and flag to Workers Union.
Daily City News learned that said decision was taken in the meeting held on 16th February 2023 regarding CBA referendum of KDA and later the Registrar Trade Union issued a letter for the referendum schedule with the signatures of all unions and management.
While Speaking with Daily City News KDA Employees Union Chairman Abdul Maroof, Joint Incharge Imran Hussain Jafri, President Nadeem Khokhar, Information Secretary Yasir Ali Khan, Deputy General Secretary Qamar Abbas, Office bearer Zeeshan Malik stated that, Employees Union challenged CBA Referendum in April 2019 for early referendum after the ending of previous CBA tenure and now because of union struggle referendum date has been finally announced.
However, sharing views about manifesto they informed that, Timely Payment of Employees salaries/ retired employees dues, approval of 20% allowance for security department employees ,10% allowance for teaching staff, inclusion of retired employees in health insurance are the main task which union will done after getting CBA status.
Moreover, they also said, Employees Union is not in favor of Jubilee Insurance as the department should have its own health facility providing process like the past.
Yasir Ali Khan Information Secretary of Union said, “Employees Union will win the CBA referendum with heavy margin of votes as it is the only union which is raising voice for the workers and taking practical steps in resolving their issues”.
He also added, Due to the efforts of Employees Union several issues of KDA staff and officers has been resolved, like the past union always stand with the employees and will also support management in taking every positive step for the betterment of department and its staff.
Yasir Ali further said, Currently, the voter interest of the KDA can be clearly seen in the current situation with the Muttahida Qaumi Movement Pakistan affiliated KDA Employees Union, Referendum is important for the department to resolve long standing issues of employees.
