The 21st death anniversary of Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) leader and former Chief Security Officer to Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto, Syed Munawwar Suhrawardy, was observed with great reverence and respect.
A large number of party leaders and workers gathered at the cemetery to offer prayers and pay floral tribute at the late leader’s grave. Among those present were PPP District East President Iqbal Sand, Faizan Suhrawardy (son of the late leader), Ejaz Durrani, Farukh Tanoli, Rauf Nagori, Farhan Ghani, Razzaq Bajwa, H.M. Ghanchi, and Asif Rahi, along with many other party loyalists.
PPP leaders paid glowing tribute to Suhrawardy’s dedication and bravery, particularly his vital role in ensuring the security of Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto during a time when Karachi was engulfed in violence and political unrest. They acknowledged that he stood firm in the face of danger and ultimately sacrificed his life for the cause of democracy.
Speaking on the occasion, Iqbal Sand referred to Munawwar Suhrawardy as his political mentor, stating that his courage and unwavering commitment to the party—despite lacking personal security—remain unmatched. Ejaz Durrani hailed him as “Shaheed-e-Jamhooriat Karachi” (Martyr of Democracy in Karachi), recognizing his fearless service during a highly volatile period in the city’s history.
Razzaq Bajwa led special prayers for the forgiveness and elevation of the departed soul and extended condolences to his son, Faizan Suhrawardy. He also appealed to PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari to honor the late leader’s legacy by appointing Faizan Suhrawardy to an important role in the Sindh cabinet.
