A black ribbon protest was staged today at Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC) by the Young Doctors Association (YDA) to denounce what they allege are biased recruitment and promotion practices for faculty.
Doctors from various departments participated in the demonstration, expressing solidarity with senior faculty members they claim have been unfairly passed over for promotions.
The YDA JPMC alleges that the irregularities and favoritism in consultant appointments and recruitment are being directed by the Vice Chancellor of Jinnah Sindh Medical University (JSMU), Dr. Amjad Siraj Memon. The association strongly condemned Dr. Memon’s actions, claiming they have led to mistreatment and undue pressure on senior faculty, negatively impacting both medical education and patient care at JPMC.
YDA JPMC Spokesperson Dr. Muhammad Ali, along with senior cabinet members Dr. Shehryar Shaikh, Dr. Abdul Salam, Dr. Mukhtyar, and Dr. Naik, participated in the protest. They stressed the need for a fair and transparent recruitment process.
The YDA is calling for the intervention of key government officials, including Chairman PPP Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, Health Minister Dr. Azra Fazal Pechuho, the Chief Secretary, and the Health Secretary of Sindh, to address the alleged injustices.
The association has pledged to continue fighting for the rights of doctors and the integrity of the medical profession.
The Young Doctor’s Association JPMC stated they are coordinating with consultants and senior faculty members to plan further action on this issue.
