YNA expresses Concern over merger of Allied Health Professionals with PNMC

KARACHI: The Young Nurses Association (YNA) Sindh led by President Syed Shahid Iqbal and Secretary General Atta Hussain Rajpar, has raised serious concerns regarding the proposed merger of Allied Health Professionals with the Pakistan Nursing and Midwives Council (PNMC).

The YNA strongly believes that the merger would dilute the focus and integrity of the nursing profession, which requires specialized governance and regulation.

The PNMC was established to address the unique needs and challenges of the nursing and midwifery communities, ensuring proper representation and oversight in matters of training, certification, and professional development. By merging Allied Health Professionals under the same regulatory body, there is a significant risk of weakening the distinct voice and identity of nurses and midwives.

President Syed Shahid Iqbal emphasized that “The merger is not in the best interest of the nursing community. It will create administrative and operational challenges, and may result in the erosion of standards that we have worked hard to establish.”

Secretary General Atta Hussain Rajpar added, “We urge the government to reconsider this decision. Nursing professionals deserve a platform that fully understands and supports their specific needs. A merger of this kind could potentially undermine the future of nursing in Pakistan.”

The YNA Sindh calls for a thorough review of the proposal and invites all stakeholders to come together for meaningful dialogue to safeguard the interests of the nursing and midwifery council.
