Marking a major achievement in water sanitation & hygiene. USAID and HANDS Pakistan have collaborated to deliver a sustainable solution for clean water access to the people of Jacobabad.
HANDS Pakistan under USAID Water governance Sindh has developed a digital MIS system in collaboration with Local Government Department to ensure accountability, transparency and sustainability. This will help the municipal committee Jacobabad to manage safe drinking water, waste water, and solid waste, which will also be implemented in five other districts of Sindh. Participants were informed about the entire MIS System through a detailed presentation
During the launch of the MIS system, Dr. Shaikh Tanveer Ahmed, CEO of HANDS Pakistan, shared his views, stating that through this system, not only safe drinking water system will be managed and monitored, but waste water, solid waster0 removal will be managed along with, and the resolution of complaints and related issues.
USAID’s Deputy Counselor General Ms. Amy Hood remarked that USAID and HANDS Pakistan have successfully provided safe drinking water to the communities of Jacobabad and that these steps could be replicated in five other districts of Sindh.
Chief Municipal Officer of Jacobabad, Rafiq Buledi, stated that with the support of HANDS and USAID, the Municipal Committee has provided water to eight union councils and developed the MIS system. This system will enhance monitoring, tracking, and accountability, with a focus on addressing complaints related to water supply and garbage disposal, ensuring that issues in these areas are resolved.
Speaking as a special guest, Syed Khalid Haider Shah, Additional Chief Secretary of the Government of Sindh, said that the public launch of the MIS system is proof that HANDS Pakistan is working to collaborate with partner institutions to bring about further improvements in the system.
Mayor of Hyderabad, Mr Kashif Shoro, expressed that HANDS Pakistan has developed the MIS system to ensure the sustainability of the water supply to the citizens of Jacobabad. He added that the MIS system will prove to be the solution to all future WASH-related problems and will not only increase public representation in the municipal committee but also improve its performance.
Lastly, the event was highly informative, and participants discussed the MIS system with a philosophical approach.
Dr. Hina Hussain Kazmi, Chief of Party for Water Governance for Sindh, the Urban WASH Project Jacobabad, presented the details of the Urban WASH Project and appreciated the efforts of Sindh Assembly members who formed the WASH Caucus on the initiative of HANDS Pakistan under the USAID project. She also stated that Deputy Commission leads the District Coordination Committee in Jacobabad while Special Secretory Local Government Department leads the technical working group. The eminent stakeholders and partners attended the event and appreciated the efforts of the initiative.
