Unknown Christian Heroes of Pakistan

By : Mrs. Zobia George Inayat

The Christian people are the second major minority in Pakistan who always celebrate the Pakistani national days with full zeal and enthusiasm in their churches and schools.

The celebrations, however, didn’t conceal the harsh reality that they weren’t truly independent despite the festivities.

Christians, who make up the largest religious minority in Pakistan, often face severe discrimination, social ostracism, and violence.

Historically, this group has contributed greatly to education, charity and health departments, especially during the partition era. It is unfortunate that these contributions have been overlooked and forgotten.

It is sad to say that the tragic events have highlighted Christian persecution in Pakistan in recent years. During their reflexion on August 16, 2024, members of the community reflected on their grim situation. It was the first anniversary of a historic incident in which more than 300 houses and 30 churches were destroyed, leaving more than 300 families homeless. Christian in Pakistan have endured inhumane treatment on this day for so long that it should be identified as a “Black Day” in history. The targeting of innocent Christian families continues despite numerous committees, laws, and rules.

It is imperative to address these incidents wherever they happen. In accordance with the law and constitution, a fair investigation must be prioritized. When individuals take the law into their own hands, the impartial delivery of justice is undermined.

On the other hand, there are heart-warming incidents, when individuals, including our Muslim brothers, have aided in the recovery and protection of minority girls from predators of forced conversions without receiving fair recognition, demonstrating their understanding of humanity.

While a Christian man, Joseph Tariq, saved a Muslim girl in Punjab from an aggressive crowd on April 22, 2024. When individuals from different religious backgrounds come together in solidarity, we can make positive progress.

Innumerable acts of humanity and prioritizing the rule of law remain to be told. Even amid challenges, there are glimpses of hope and humanity. Countless untold stories of injustice remain hidden, overshadowed by a race for recognition and accolades. True justice shouldn’t be about headlines or minority rights alone it’s about country rights, ensuring equality for every citizen.

Healthcare, education, and opportunities must be accessible to all, without discrimination. Many still strive for convent education and foreign work, but are we perpetuating inequality in the process?

It’s time to shift our mind set and break down the walls of discrimination. Equal rights for minorities are crucial for a just society, enriching communities and fostering social harmony. Empowering all citizens, regardless of race or religion, is essential for a fair and inclusive world.

Let’s unite ourselves for the better future of our country and make Quid-e-Azam’s vision of justice and equality in a reality.
