Sindh Minister for Irrigation department, Jam Khan Shoro has said that Sindh Irrigation department is has decided to send a letter to officers concerned of Indus River System Authority (IRSA) in the protest of drastic reduction of water discharge at downstream Chashma Barrage.
“It is highly condemnable act of IRSA to reduce 27,000 cusecs water from Sindh’s share without consultation with the province”, he added.
Provincial Minister for Irrigation department said that even, today IRSA without any consultation with Sindh irrigation department further has reduced 27,000 cusescs from 133,000 cusecs and now it has reached at 106,000 cusecs on which province has great reservations.
This he said in a statement issued by him hereon today.
Provincial Minister for Irrigation department said that Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah had demanded the due water share to Sindh province as per water accord agreement 1991 in the last day press conference and demanded to compensate Sindh province for water shortage in the months of April, May, June, July and August in the upcoming month of the September.
Mr Jam Khan Shoro further said that IRSA had supplied 22% less water in the month of April, 38% in May, 27% in June and 9% in the month of July to Sindh province.
He said such biased and dishonest decision of IRSA will cause severe damage to standing crops in Sindh province and when 106,000 cusecs of water reaches the barrages of Sindh province, it will be further reduced by 25% due to water losses.
Jam Khan Shoro said that this decision of IRSA would lead the province to severe famine and destruction of standing crops at the sides of Sukkur & Kotri Barrages.
He said that this decision of IRSA will also create water shortage in Kanjhar Lake, which further will lead to the severe scarcity of water in Karachi city.
Sindh Minister for Irrigation department demanded that Province of Sindh should immediately be provided its due share of water at the downstream Chashma Barrage so that the standing agricultural crops in Sindh, Balochistan can be saved.
