Saeed Ghani confident of getting JUI support for PPP candidates for Karachi mayor, deputy mayor polls
Karachi: Sindh Labour and Human Resources Minister, Saeed Ghani, has expressed confidence that Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI) will support the Pakistan People’s Party’s candidates for upcoming elections for Karachi’s mayor and deputy mayor like the alliance formed between the two parties for contesting together the local government elections in the city.
The Sindh Labour Minister, who is also PPP Karachi Division President, stated this on Thursday as he met JUI Sindh President Allama Rashid Mahmood Soomro here at its residence. PPP Karachi General Secretary Javed Nagori was also present on the occasion.
The meeting took into consideration the recent local government elections in the city and matters related to Karachi Metropolitan Corporation and town municipal administrations to be formed in the city.
Ghani said on the occasion that the PPP was keen to get the fullest support from the JUI in the upcoming elections for Karachi’s mayor and deputy in line with the earlier electoral strategy under which two parties contested together the local government polls in many towns and UCs of the city.
He mentioned that the PPP had emerged as the single largest political party in the city as it was its lawful right to get its nominee elected as the next mayor of Karachi.
The Sindh Labour Minister said that he wouldn’t offer any comment on Jamaat-e-Islami Karachi leader, Hafiz Naeem-ur-Rehman, declaring himself the next mayor of Karachi after the JI got support from the PTI. He said that notwithstanding such claims the next mayor of Karachi would be a die-hard worker of the People’s Party after getting support from the JUI in the mayoral poll.
Soomro said the principled stance of his party on this issue is very clear as his JUI would continue to support the People’s Party as it did in the recent local government elections not just in Karachi but the rest of Sindh.
He mentioned that the People’s Party and JUI had earlier formed an electoral alliance in District West of Karachi as the two parties would also support each other in different towns of the city.
