Petitioner against Gutka Mafia died before getting justice

A resident of Pakistan’s largest city Karachi’s area Landhi and patient of mouth cancer died on Saturday before getting justice, as he was petitioner against Gutka sellers and Manufacturers in Sindh High Court .

It was learned that the deceased person Waseem Masih filed a petition in Sindh high court (SHC) against smokeless tobacco manufacturers and sellers, the date of hearing fixed on 13th March 2020.

On the petition of Waseem Masih Sindh High Court summoned Home Department, IG Sindh, DG Rangers, Secretary Health, DIG South, DIG West including others.

Whereas, Court had directed the respective respondents including SHO Landhi Police station for submission of answer regarding the said petition.

The said person was suffering from the disease of oral cancer which had spread in his whole mouth and cheek because of it he was passing his life on the bed like a disabled person.

In a petition complainant stated that he was a rickshaw driver and he started using Gutka , Mawa , main Puri (Smokeless tobacco) three years back as a result suffering from mouth cancer.

However, he was also mentioned in the petition that he had lodged FIR bearing No 496/2019 in Landhi Police Station on 4th December 2019 against the persons who are involved in preparing and selling of Gutka, Mawa, Mainpuri, City, Rajni, JM, 121 including other smokeless tobacco products.

Whereas the petitioner had alleged that the investigation officer of the said police station is not cooperating with him and the police have also failed to arrest the accused who involved in the said heinous crime.

Moreover, it was written on the petition that Gutka , Mawa , Mainpuri are easily available in different parts of the city , however the raw material of smokeless tobacco products available in Joria Bazar Near City Court Karachi.

In Addition, it was asked to the court for a complete ban on the production and selling of all types of smokeless tobacco.

Speaking with City News Wife of Waseem Masih shared that, despite of lodging complain against the Gutka sellers and Manufacturers Police was not arresting them.


She alleged that, Gutka is selling all over the city under the supervision of Police despite of the ban on said product making and selling by Sindh High Court.
It was learned that Kashif alias Babu Batti wala, Mehnaz Baba Gutka wala, Raees Makhan, Fayyaz Khushbu Gutkay wala, Shaikh Hafeez, Noman Gutka Manufacturers are on bail.

Sources informed that the Smokeless tobacco manufacturers Rajni, 121 including others are selling their products by getting fake approvals from PCSIR laboratory that their products are Pan Masala which is not injurious for health.

City News observed that the Sindh High Court has already directed the Provincial Government including Sindh Police for a ban on selling and manufacturing of Gutka, but still, the said products are available in various areas of the city as big money involved in the business of said product which took several lives of citizens and numbers of patients are admitted in hospitals who are suffering from the disease of Oral Cancer.
