Pakistani Christians of Gulf tribute Sister Ruth Lewis (FMCK)

The Pakistani residents and workers at Gulf Countries have paid their tribute to Sister Ruth Lewis (Franciscan Missionaries of Christ the King) for her invaluable service to suffering humanity.

They had arranged a Holy Mass and a memorial service for her soul at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Sharjah.

Sr. Ruth Lewis, a Catholic Nun of the women Congregation of Franciscan Missionaries of Christ the King was born on 2nd May 1946.

She had lived and worked in Karachi, Pakistan and died on 20th July 2020 after contracting Covid-19 while serving Covid-19 patients at one of their facilities at Dar-ul-Sukun, a home for around 150 of physically challenged persons including mostly children and teenagers, at Karachi.

According to the Administration of Dar-ul-Sukun Sr. Lewis got infected on July 8, 2020 as she was tirelessly working with 21 children at Dar-ul-Sukoon, infected with the coronavirus, afterwards she was admitted at a private hospital in Karachi.

On 22nd July 2020, His Eminence Joseph Cardinal Coutts, Archbishop of the Archdiocese of Karachi, following the Covid-19 SOP’s from the Government had celebrated her Funeral Rights at Christ the King Church.

Pakistani Christians not only in Sharjah but also in other Gulf states including St. Mary’s Church Dubai, St. Joseph’s Church Abu Dhabi, St. Mary’s Church Al Ain, Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church Fujairah and St. Peter’s and Paul’s Church of Oman also took part in this historic online Mass through Zoom.

Philip Anthony, President of St. Michael’s Church Sharjah, Charles Lazarus and Mumtaz Kashif took the initiative in organizing the service and gathered all Christians at Gulf.

Rev. Fr. Afzal Iqbal (OFM Cape) from Pakistan had offered Mass from Pakistan and people from all over Gulf had joined him through Zoom. Bro. Babar and Deacon Danish were also present there during this service.

Deacon Danish (OFM Cap) during his Homily had highlights the importance of obeying the great commandment of the Bible and our role in saving mankind and following the great commandment, such as the love of the Bible.

He also said that the example of Sister Ruth’s is very practical she in her life reached the hearts of the suffering people and her death has caused irreparable damage to the world, and has caused great shock to the entire Christian community and country and other nations.

Mr. Philip Anthony, President of St. Michael’s Church Sharjah, in his comments had said that she was an angel to all, her death cannot fill the gap.

He also said that she was pride of Christians and even for all the nations. she had really served the humanity without any discrimination.
