KARACHI: The Inspector General (IG) Sindh, Ghulam Nabi Memon, has instructed the deployment of over 33,560 policemen across the province to ensure security during Eid-ul-Fitr.

The decision was made after evaluating the emergency plan for the occasion, which includes cleaning up central Mosques, Imambargahs, Eidgah, and other open areas before Eid prayers.

During the three days of Eid, the respective Station House Officers (SHOs) will record details about the beginning and conclusion of Eid Namaz at district wireless control centres. The police will also conduct strong surveillance to improve coordination and effectiveness of overall anti-crime measures.

In Karachi, around 9,825 police officers, including mobile and motorbike officers, will be deployed to provide protection at 4,242 Eidgahs, Mosques, and Imambargah.

Meanwhile, in other regions of Sindh, about 22,236 officers and youth are being deployed as security guards, including 8,222 in Hyderabad, 1,690 in Mirpurkhas, 3,013 in Shaheed Benazirabad, 6,811 in Larkana, and 4,000 in Sukkur.

The IG Sindh has instructed the police to take all necessary security measures, including patrols, random checks, and snap checks, to maintain peace in the relevant regions.

It is also important to avoid leaving any duty points unclaimed to ensure constant security measures are maintained over the three days of Eid. Specific directives have been given to traffic police to ensure a smooth flow of traffic during Eid.
