Orangi Project conducts anti encroachment drive despite unavailability of law enforcement agencies

Karachi: Land and Revenue Orangi Township a department of Karachi Municipal Corporation (KMC) conducted successful anti-encroachment operation on Wednesday at 4 different locations of Orangi Town despite the unavailability of police ,rangers amid government assurances .

It was learned that the said operation conducted by Orangi Project employees and City wardens whereas they also faced resistance of the encroachment mafia attacks, intimidation, firing and stone pelting by the illegal occupants.

However according to Project Director Orangi Top officials has taken notice regarding the non-cooperation of police and rangers in anti encroachment operation and now it is hoped that law enforcement support will be provided on time .

Daily City News observed that ,Citizens of Orangi welcomed the action and chanted slogans in favor of KMC, Project Director Orangi.

During the operation in Sector 16 I, 1.75 acres of land was vacated. Whereas The families residing in the constructions on 1.25 Acre were given a notice to vacate within a week. Similarly on second Place of anti encroachment drive action taken at Sector 6 ST 4 where six shops were build on amenity plot on the name of Mehran Health Club, which was allotted by former Project Director Orangi Shariq Ilyas.

In this regard, Project Director Orangi Town Rizwan Khan informed that before two days of the said anti encroachment drive , he contacted Sindh Home Department, DG Rangers, IG Sindh, DIG, SSP, SHOs, DC West, Administrator Karachi, MC, also sought help of security and staff from Director Anti Encroachment Kmc but due to no response, he informed the situation by contacting Governor Sindh on complaint number 1366.

He told that Governor House gave positive response and asked to Contact SSP Office Reader Minhaj and would get police from all three police stations Orangi Town Police Station, Pakistan Bazar, and Mominabad Police Stations.

However, from the morning of March 15 to the evening, the police of the three police stations did not arrive, nor the Rangers team came, but despite this, our morale was high, he added.

He said that with my team and the team of city wardens, operation were carried out at 4 places with heavy machinery and all illegal occupations were cleared.

In response to a Question regarding illegal occupations on government lands Rizwan Khan said that he want to clear the government land from the mafia and auction it publicly so that the KMC will get better income but we face disappointment, while all the relevant security agencies should cooperate in handing over the government land by realising it as their duty.
