Oral Cancer Affectee reaches court for action against Gutka Manufacturers
A Resident of Pakistan’s Business Hub Karachi District Korangi, Patient of Mouth Cancer affected by the use of Gutka (Smokeless Tobacco) reached Sindh High Court on Tuesday, urged the court for the ban on gutka, mainpuri and all types of smokeless tobacco.
She argued in court that, she had started using Gutka four years back and was suffering from incurable disease oral cancer for the last 2 years and also urged the government for her better treatment as she belongs to a poor family and could not afford the treatment of said disease.
Whereas she urged before the Honorable Judge of the court that “My life has ended because of using gutka, would like to save other citizens from this incurable disease by putting a ban on all types of smokeless tobacco”.
City News learned that the Petition Under Article 199 of the constitution of Islamic Republic of Pakistan,1973 submitted by the said complainant before the High Court of Sindh Judge on Tuesday, On which the Court has summoned Additional Secretary Health Sindh Government for Friday 28th February 2020.
On the other hand, the said affected person namely Sanober resident of Korangi also lodged First Information Report at Zaman Town Police Station on 22nd February against the manufacturers of Gutka.
It was learned that more than ten manufacturers of Gutka nominated in the said FIR which registered under Section 336B/337J/34 in the said police station.
The Sindh High Court had already directed the Provincial government including law enforcement agencies for the ban on gutka including all types of smokeless tobacco products manufacturing and sale but the said products are still available in various parts of the city.
