The Muttahida Workers Front’s campaign for the upcoming referendum is actively underway, gathering momentum across various departments of Karachi Water and Sewerage Corporation.
The campaign meeting was graced by key leadership including Chairman and In-charge Irshad Khan, Joint In-charge and Senior Vice President Jameel Saudagar, Vice President Anwar Habib, Joint Incharge Nadeem Yousuf, General Secretary Waseem Ibrahim, Information Secretary Danish, Field Secretary Mukhtar, along with Faisal, Qayyum, Mudassir Ameer and other committee members and supporters.
Members and representatives of the All Pakistan Welfare Officers Association also took part in the event.
Speaking to employees, CBA Chairman Irshad Khan expressed confidence that, InshaAllah, the next term in the Water Corporation would again belong to them. “We are hopeful that, with your support, we will achieve success once more,” he stated. He highlighted the achievements of the Muttahida Workers Front, including a 200% increase in employee allowances in the latest Charter of Demand and the introduction of a special allowance for Christian employees.
Irshad Khan emphasized that their continued presence is based on performance. “Since being elected, the CBA has not only protected workers’ rights but also prevented the privatization of the Water Corporation and blocked the outsourcing of medical and tax services,” he said.
He further added, “Our mission and struggle are incomplete without you. Our policies have always been worker-friendly, unlike our opponents who thrive on division and hostility. We advocate unity and love among workers.”
The chairman reiterated that the efforts and contributions of the United Workers Front are well-known and visible to all. “If you want to prevent privatization, maintain medical benefits, and ensure timely dues, then it is essential to make Muttahida Workers Front successful again,” he asserted.
Joint In-charge Nadeem Yousuf stated, “It is by Allah’s grace that we were chosen to serve you.” He criticized those challenging the referendum, saying, “The same people who were never seen fighting for your rights are now active just to serve their personal agendas. They couldn’t even wake up early before, but they rushed to challenge the referendum.”
He warned workers to beware of “opportunists and one-man show unions” who seek to exploit them for their own gain.
He also criticized the United Union, a former ally, for acting out of self-interest and opposing the workers when asked to withdraw the DPC-II case, which was deemed unjust to employees.
Nadeem further mentioned that the Peoples Labour Union is once again attempting to deceive employees with false promises, just as they did in the past. “They made hollow promises of utility allowances and now are offering another lollipop,” he remarked.
“Our struggle cannot be stopped by your conspiracies. Our only aim is the prosperity of employees and stability of the institution,” he added.
Speaking at the event, General Secretary Waseem Ibrahim stated that the goal of the campaign is to strengthen communication with employees, who he described as the backbone of the institution. “Those with zero performance are now calling our term a dark era. If they removed their biased lens, they would see our accomplishments,” he said.
He pointed out that it was during their tenure that the deceased quota was reinstated something no other group had taken initiative on. “Some unions have no central members and yet claim to represent you,” he noted.
“We have never compromised on employee interests and never will. Our opponents cannot digest our success and are constantly plotting against us. We only ask that you stay connected with the Muttahida Workers Front—only we can resolve your issues,” he affirmed.
The campaign also featured addresses by Joint In-charge and Senior Vice President Jameel Saudagar and Imran Abdullah from the All Pakistan Welfare Officers Association, who emphasized strengthening mutual coordination.
The event concluded with several employees officially leaving rival unions to join the Muttahida Workers Front. Chairman Irshad Khan welcomed the new members warmly.
A large number of workers and supporters from SITE Town, Keamari Town, and Baldia Town were present at the referendum campaign gathering.
