Mayor Karachi urges officers to expedite works of sports complex
Mayor Karachi Wasim Akhtar has directed the concerned officials to expedite remaining development works in the KMC Sports Complex so new facilities including cricket and hockey ground and badminton and table tennis arena could be made available for people.
Presiding a meeting of the technical services, finance and sports and recreation department in his office he said that finishing all ongoing uplift schemes and make these operational was top priority, we want to open maximum sports facilities to public as soon as possible.
The meeting was also attended by the deputy mayor Syed Arshad Hasan, chairman works committee Hasan Naqvi, financial advisor Riaz Khatri, director general technical works Iqtidar Ahmed, seniordirector coordination Masood Alam, director sports and culture Khursheed Shahand other engineers and officers.
Earlier the mayor was given adetailed briefing on the ongoing development works of the sports complex. It was informed that work presently going on a portion of 4 acres land of thecomplex. The phase-I was begun on 2013 for which 95 percent work already completed and remaining underway speedily.
The complex offers sports facilitiesfor cricket, hockey, football, roller skating, badminton, table tennis, squash,bowling alley and other indoor sports, with swimming, jogging track.
The workof hockey ground was nearing to completion where capacity for 3000 spectatorswas provided.
Mayor Karachi said all small works should also be completed with major works of the complex.
He said that civil and electrical works should be carried out simultaneously to remove any hurdle on laterstages.Mayor Karachi also said that sportscomplex and grounds could only be used for sport activities and no commercial activity be allowed there.
He said we also want to complete thedevelopment works of Landhi sports complex at the earliest so these could beopened for people soon.
