The Counter Terrorism Department’s (CTD) Intelligence Wing has arrested Asad Sajjad, the mastermind of a gang behind bank robberies in Karachi.
According to details, in an operation by the CTD Intelligence Wing, over the instructions of DIG CTD Asif Ijaz Sheikh and SSP Intelligence wing CTD Raja Umer Khattab a suspect named Asad Sajjad was arrested. It has been reported that he used to rob citizens who were leaving banks with cash.
The CTD intelligence wing team incharge Kafeel Awan confirmed the arrest on Sunday, noting that the accused had targeted citizens withdrawing cash from bank ATMs. He also said that the accused Sajjad, recently released on bail and again started criminal activities.
According to the CTD spokesperson, the suspect Asad Sajjad informed his accomplices about a citizen who was leaving a bank with cash. Acting on this tip-off, the accomplices tried to rob the citizen in DHA area of kala pull, but the police arrived at the scene during the robbery, and one of the suspects was killed in the encounter.
While taking to Daily City News, Kafeel Awan stated that Sajjad was arrested a few months ago for robbing a courier van but was released on bail.
It was also mentioned that his arrest was made possible with the help of CCTV footage which played a crucial role in identifying and capturing the suspect.
Further, Investigations are ongoing as authorities seek to apprehend other members of the gang.
