HYDERABAD: Former federal minister Shazia Marri has sent legal notices to some newspaper, news channels and one FM radio for allegedly defaming her through unsubstantiated news of her involvement in Rs96.7 billion corruption scam.
The notices, which have also been served to an official of Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP) and to Human Rights Justice Defenders Organization, refuted that the National Accountability Bureau has initiated any inquiry.
“… it is stated in unequivocal terms that no inquiry, investigation or raid have been conducted or initiated by any official authority,” asserted the notices served through Siddiqui and Raza Barristers and Legal Consultants on September 5.
The recipients of the notices have been warned to tender unconditional apology within a fortnight failing which Marri will sue each of them for Rs10 billion damages. The notices stated that the media in question ran the news without even bothering to verify the spurious reports.
The news, which was share on social media, alleged that a team of NAB recovered almost Rs97 billion in a raid at Marri’s residence.
