BEIJING: Pakistan Embassy Commercial Counsellor in Beijing Ghulam Qadir on Tuesday said that Chinese enterprises visiting the first International Food and Agriculture Exhibition in Karachi were keen about diverse Pakistani products and expressed willingness to do business with local companies, injecting momentum into Pakistan’s efforts to enhance exports to China.

“It was a wonderful event where we were able to arrange many business-to-business meetings between the Chinese and local manufacturers. They were very excited to see the diversity of outstanding products displayed at the expo,” he told APP. Qadir led a delegation of around 110 Chinese representatives from Beijing and neighbouring provinces at the expo.

This year’s exhibition, themed “Growing a Sustainable Future”, brought international and local communities together to generate hope for building a common future.

A large number of Chinese seafood and grain associations participated in the exhibition after the signing of protocols for meat, chilli and other products.

The commercial counsellor said that the expo was very well organised by the Trade Development Authority of Pakistan (TDAP) and the response of Chinese businessmen was very encouraging.

“Chinese are very happy and want to do business. Prices are competitive. The products range is very good. Diversity is there. So I think we have a lot of export prospects,” he added.

Qadir noted that the Chinese enterprises were eager to import rice, sesame, sesame oil and meat from Pakistan, which would help increase exports to China.

“A number of Chinese companies wish to visit meat factories while some of them have shown interest in high-quality chilli.”

He said that Chinese delegates held some important meetings in Karachi and expressed satisfaction over new opportunities and prospects of forging strategic alliances.
