Jawwad Muzaffar vows for enforcement of Tobacco Control laws in Karachi

On the occasion of World No Tobacco Day, Tobacco Smoke Free Cities Ministry of NHSR&C in collaboration with District East Police organized a Training of Trainers for police personals at SSP East Karachi Office .

The Training was held on the directives of Senior Superintendent of Police East Sajid Amir Sadozai to aware policemen regarding the existing Tobacco Control Laws.

Dr Minhaj us Siraj Project Director Tobacco Smoke Free Cities (TSFC) Ministry of NHSRC and Muhammad Aftab Project Manager TSFC briefed police officials of district east who came from different police stations about the existing laws and successful examples of TSFC specially in Islamabad including Five districts of Punjab which are now emerged as a model smoke free cities for all over the world.

Speaking with the participants Syed Jawwad Muzaffar Additional Commissioner Karachi/Focal Person TSFC Karachi stated that Commissioner Karachi Office is willing to make the city smoke free through the strict enforcement of Tobacco Control laws and for this Commissioner Karachi has already issued directives for the formation of District Implementation & Monitoring Committee on Tobacco Control in all districts of Karachi city to monitor the compliance on Tobacco Control laws by including all stakeholders on district level.

TSFC Officials also shed light on Tobacco Control Law “Prohibition of Smoking and Protection of Non-Smokers Health Ordinance 2002” and SROs which have been issued in the continuation of this law.

Moreover, they informed about the role of police and how TSFC and Police Department could play their role for the enforcement of Tobacco Control Law and to make successful the vision of Smoke Free Karachi.

Syed Jawwad Muzaffar along with SSP East and Dr. Minhaj distributed certificates among the participants of training , whereas they also inaugurated the smoke free plate by cutting ribbon at the office of SSP East Karachi.

However at last SSP East assured for the support of Police Department for the enforcement of Tobacco Control laws to protect the lives of our future generations.
