IRSA fails in water distribution; Jam Khan Shoro

Sindh Minister for Irrigation Department Jam Khan Shoro has said that Sindh province is facing severe water shortage and his department demanded IRSA to release 130,000 cusecs of water to the province under clause 14 (D) of the Water Accord 1991.

As a result, Indus River System Authority (IRSA) called an emergency meeting today and summoned the IRSA’s representative of Sindh province who briefed in the meeting on severe situation of water shortage in Sindh province, later IRSA has approved to supply water to Sindh province as per 14 (D) of water accord.

This he said while talking to mediapersons at his office hereon today.

Provincial Minister for Irrigation department said that IRSA had allowed transfer of water through CJ & TP link canals which are causing severe water shortage in the province, and these link canals should be closed immediately.

Sindh Minister for Irrigation department Jam Khan Shoro said that legislation would be carried out for setting up Sindh Irrigation force after consultation with PPP high leadership and Provincial Cabinet in order to curbing on water theft in the province.
