The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has finalised the deal with Inzamam-ul-Haq, which involves the formal approval of a three-year contract by the management committee.
According to the details, PCB made an official announcement on August 7th, declaring Inzamam-ul-Haq as the new Chief Selector. In this role, he has already chosen teams for the Test series against Sri Lanka and the upcoming Asia Cup 2023.
However, negotiations regarding the length of his contract are still in progress. Inzamam emphasized the importance of a lengthy tenure for the Chief Selector to ensure consistent decision-making and the overall improvement of Pakistan cricket.
If given a long-term commitment, it’s probable that he will dedicate his full attention to this role, possibly prioritizing it over other commitments such as league engagements.
Inzamam took part in an online meeting of the PCB management committee that took place in Karachi on Sunday. During this meeting, the PCB commended his contributions to cricket and reportedly formalized the offer of a structured three-year contract.
According to sources, there are indications that he may receive a monthly salary of Rs2 million.
Recently retired cricketers are not keen on accepting a lower paying job from PCB. This reluctance stems from their involvement in lucrative opportunities such as leagues and other avenues. As a result, the cricket board has encountered challenges when trying to attract prominent figures.
Inzamam is set to meet with Team Director Mickey Arthur, Head Coach Grant Bradburn, and skipper Babar Azam in Multan on Tuesday for discussions pertaining to the composition of the World Cup squad.
It’s important to note that Arthur will depart following the India-Pakistan match in Sri Lanka, and Inzamam intends to have conversations about the potential World Cup squad while he is still around.
